We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support youth activities at our Family Hub. We want someone who is keen to get involved in sessions for children aged 5+ in a variety of fun, educational, and creative activities that promote social development, confidence, and wellbeing.
Who you will be helping
You will be helping children from a variety of backgrounds and may attend the Family Hub for:
- Half-term activities
- Supportive play and learning environments
- In addition to the children, as a volunteer you will also support:
- Parents and carers, by providing a safe and engaging space for their children.
- Family Hub staff, by assisting with the smooth running of sessions and activities.
- Other volunteers, by working as part of a team to create a positive and inclusive environment.
The difference you will make
As a volunteer, you’ll help create a fun, safe, and supportive space where children aged 5+ can grow in confidence, make friends, and enjoy new experiences. Your time and energy will make a real difference to families in the community, while giving you the chance to learn new skills and be part of something meaningful.
Typical tasks within this role:
- Support and engage children aged 5+ in fun, educational, and creative activities that promote confidence, well-being, and social development.
- Assist with half-term activities and supportive play and learning sessions at the Family Hub.
- Help provide a safe and engaging environment for children, supporting both parents/carers and Family Hub staff.
- Contribute to the smooth running of sessions by working collaboratively with staff and fellow volunteers.
Who are we looking for?
There is no ‘typical’ Family Action volunteer. We want our volunteers to be as diverse as the people we support. We need volunteers with a range of life experiences, skills and knowledge. In return for giving your time and talents, you will receive quality training, ongoing support, and the reward of knowing that you are making a real difference. This role will particularly suit volunteers who:
- Friendly, patient and approachable.
- Passionate about working with children and supporting their development.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Have respect for confidentiality, professionalism and safeguarding.
- Are willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check and training.
- Can be flexible.
What’s in it for you?
Family Action volunteers tell us that volunteering with us can be challenging at times, but it is also very rewarding. Many of our volunteers also report that volunteering has helped them with:
- Gaining experience in a children and family setting.
- Learning more about child development
- Developing new skills.
- Increased confidence and self-esteem
- Opportunity to improve future employment prospects
- Being part of a team and becoming a part of Family Action, a national charity with 150 years of experience supporting families
- Support and guidance including 1-1 and group supervision
- Regular training and development opportunities.
